One of the most common extensions for a house or garden flat is a single storey or double storey side extension. A single storey extension is usually feasible and may not require planning permission as long as it is no wider than half the width of the house, is part of a single dwelling house (as opposed to a flat) and is of matching materials to the main house.   • It must be less than 50% of the overall floors pace of the cartilage
